Alert: August Recess: Sharing Success Stories and Spotlight on CHIP

Dear Partners –

As you know, August recess is an important opportunity to engage with federal policymakers while they are at home. This August we encourage you to use August recess as a platform for two issues: outreach and enrollment successes in your state and the important role of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

The first open enrollment period was a huge success, and millions of consumers across the country gained coverage under the law, many of them thanks to the hard work for advocates and enrollment specialists. We encourage you to work with Navigators and assisters to educate and update policymakers about how outreach and enrollment unfolded in your state.

Also, this summer we wanted to spotlight an important issue. CHIP plays a crucial role in providing 8 million children and pregnant women with health coverage. CHIP funding is set to expire in 2015, and unless Congress acts, it will not be renewed. August recess provides an opportunity to educate members of Congress about CHIP and ensuring its continued funding.

To support you in these efforts, Community Catalyst has assembled a toolkit to help you focus on CHIP and ACA success stories during August recess.
