Dear Partners,

Congress is working on a tight timeline to finalize its version of the American Rescue Plan—the next COVID-19 relief bill—before it comes up for a vote in both the House and Senate in the coming weeks. For the first time in 10 years we have a short window to make real progress on the health care issues that matter most to our communities

American Rescue Plan Talking Points
Contact your Members of Congress today to make sure they prioritize health and economic stability in the American Rescue Plan.

In particular, tell them to:
  • Make sure people have affordable, accessible health coverage. Newly proposed language improves premium support, especially for those at the lowest incomes. We must keep these improvements!  Support the plan to:
    • Cap income contributions at 8.5 percent of income;
    • Eliminate premiums for people living at under 150 percent of the federal poverty level;
    • Smooth out the premium scale by eliminating cliffs that cut families off from needed support; and
    • Improve and extend cost sharing measures.
  • Encourage states to close the coverage gap, which disproportionately includes people of color and front-line workers, now by:
    • Raising the federal match on the Medicaid program (FMAP) for three years; and
    • Making the match available to states when they expand Medicaid.

  • Read our blog on affordable coverage and premium subsidies to prepare; and

We won’t get another chance like this until next fall. With strong advocacy, we can ensure that Members of Congress take this opportunity to prioritize health and make real, long-term change in our communities.

In solidarity,

Jessie Zimmerer, Campaign Manager
