The Role of Community Health Workers in Health System Transformation

Dear Partners,

As our health care delivery system evolves to both cut costs and improve consumer health outcomes, particularly in underserved populations, community health workers have emerged as a valuable and proven resource to increase access to health care, improve care coordination and create better population health.

That’s why we’re excited to share a new resource with you, Trusted Voices: The Role of Community Health Workers in Health System Transformation, which highlights the role community health workers can play in health care delivery, identifies possible means of funding and includes potential partnerships for involving community health workers in health system transformation.

It draws heavily from the lessons learned and work done by consumer health advocates, community-based organizations and community health worker associations in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio and more. We hope that the brief will help you address barriers, including certification and funding, as well as identify community health worker integration and advocacy opportunities moving forward.
