Veterans Day and the Coverage Gap: New social media materials

Dear Partners,

With Veterans Day a week away, we wanted to share new social media materials sending the message that veterans will gain access to coverage when states close the coverage gap. Currently, more than 1 million veterans are uninsured, and of those uninsured veterans, four in 10 fall in the coverage gap. Veterans Day is an important opportunity to call attention to how the coverage gap impacts this population.

To help you spread the word we have created several resources:

We also wanted to remind you of existing resources and share some examples from partners who have successfully drawn attention to veterans in the coverage gap:

  • The Urban Institute released a report last year estimating the number of uninsured veterans and family members in the coverage gap
  • An infographic from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that explains the problem and how the ACA can help
  • Partners in Alabama and Utah have placed opinion pieces on veterans in the coverage gap in local papers

We hope these resources are helpful to you as Veterans Day approaches. If you have any questions about the materials, please contact Christine Lindberg (

Thank you for your continued advocacy,

Katherine Howitt and the Close the Gap Team
