Dear Partners,
Even though open enrollment ended in March, there are still opportunities for some consumers to enroll in affordable health coverage. Consumers who experience certain life-changing events, such as a marriage or birth, as well as events that lead to a loss of health coverage, can allow consumers to qualify for a “special enrollment period” (SEP), in which consumers can enroll in coverage outside of open enrollment.
Additionally, this year there is an SEP from March 15 to April 30 for some consumers who are subject to the penalty for not having health insurance in 2014.
To assist with your post-open enrollment efforts, we’ve created several resources to help explain special enrollment periods to consumers and talk about the different types available. This Special Enrollment Period toolkit includes:
- Press Release for the March-April Special Enrollment Period that should help your organization reach out to eligible consumers;
- Social Media Materials to help spread the word on the March-April SEP;
- Customizable Sharegraphic about the March-April SEP for use by your organization;
- SEP Infographic from Families USA to help raise awareness about life changes and SEPs; and
- Special Enrollment Period Fact Sheet that details the various events that may trigger a SEP for a consumer.
We hope you will find these resources helpful and share them with any partners who may also benefit from the information. If you have any questions, please contact Rachelle Rubinow at rrubinow@communitycatalyst.org.
Thank you for your continued advocacy,
The Community Catalyst Outreach and Enrollment Team
