“There is simply no way to meet these budget targets without terminating the health care that millions of people rely on.

BOSTON, MA — Today, the House passed the Senate’s budget resolution that will make massive cuts to Medicaid and terminate health care from millions—all to fund tax breaks for billionaires and corporations. These cuts do nothing to address the high cost of care or rein in the corporate greed that continues to put people over profit in our health system.

One thing is crystal clear: there is simply no way to meet these budget targets without terminating the health care that millions of people rely on. Claims that these cuts can be achieved without harming communities and jeopardizing access to affordable health care are mathematically impossible and dishonest,” said Mona Shah, Senior Director of Policy and Strategy at Community Catalyst.

Medicaid is an overwhelmingly popular, cost-efficient program. These cuts would harm people with disabilities, children, and older adults who rely on Medicaid for their health and economic well-being.

“Community Catalyst and our partners across the country will continue to mobilize to ensure that policymakers understand exactly what these cuts would mean for the families and community they serve—lost coverage, closed rural hospitals, increased medical debt, and worse health outcomes, particularly in communities already facing systemic health inequities. We demand lawmakers reject these harmful cuts and instead pursue budget policies that advance health equity, not undermine it,” continued Shah.

Medicaid Works. Cuts Hurt.
  • Millions could lose coverage—especially children, older adults, people with disabilities, and rural residents
  • Nearly half of all births in rural America could be jeopardized, worsening maternal health deserts
  • Nursing home and in-home care for older adults could be slashed, leaving families without essential support
  • Preventive care like cancer screenings, mental health treatment, and pediatric check-ups could vanish
  • Medical debt would skyrocket as more people delay or avoid care they can’t afford
  • Public trust would erode as lawmakers ignore what the majority of people want: health care, not handouts to billionaires

As a national leader in the movement to defend Medicaid, Community Catalyst is building power alongside more than 350 partners across the country to stop attacks on our health and protect care for more than 72 million people who rely on Medicaid for their health care. From red states to blue, we’re organizing with people most impacted by these cuts—parents, patients, caregivers, and frontline providers—who are speaking out and demanding a better path forward.
