The material listed here, and others in Community Catalyst’s archives, were originally created by the Children’s Dental Health Project (CDHP), one of our long-time partners. When CDHP closed its doors in 2019, we acquired their extensive resources to continue their work improving the oral health system for children and adults.
About CDHP
Founded by Dr. Burton Edelstein, DDS, MPH, the organization was created in 1997 to serve as the voice of children seeking dental coverage. CDHP achieved great success advancing this and other goals. Its accomplishments include:
- Achieving its founding goal to expand oral health coverage for children, especially those enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Data show that 9 in 10 kids had dental coverage in recent years.
- Helping expand access to dental coverage for adults and working for broader, holistic solutions to support families’ oral health.
- Making significant in-roads to expand oral health access in pregnancy and for parents and caregivers. CDHP recognized that oral health is a critical component of overall health and economic opportunity. As it advanced coverage for children, it also produced innovative research, analysis and policy approaches to integrate oral health into other issue areas.
The organization closed at the end of 2019. Its legacy — creating a robust network of oral health advocates, expanding coverage for children and building a foundation to meet families’ comprehensive health needs — will inform the next generation of oral health advocacy.

Community Catalyst was a long-time national partner of CDHP. Our organizations regularly collaborated. We worked to build strong, diverse partnerships supporting oral health advocacy. Together, CDHP and Community Catalyst helped grow the oral health movement.
Upon CDHP’s closure, Community Catalyst acquired its extensive resources on oral health policy. Below you will find those which we felt were still relevant and helpful to partners and interested people.
