“This budget doesn’t just fail our communities – it actively harms the very people our health system should be accountable to, all so they can give larger tax cuts to billionaires.”
Washington, D.C. — Community Catalyst strongly opposes the House Budget Committee’s passed budget resolution. In response, Mona Shah, Senior Director of Policy & Strategy at Community Catalyst, released the following statement:
“The intent of this budget resolution doesn’t just fail our communities – it actively harms the very people our health system should be accountable to, all so they can give larger tax cuts to billionaires. It is shameful and wrong. House Republicans would rather push millions off Medicaid, deepen race and economic inequities, and strip health care from those who need it the most. This is not just bad policy – it is a direct attack on people’s rights, dignity, and economic well-being. This will harm children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
“The likely cuts directly contradict our vision of a health system that works for all of us—one that is shaped by the people most harmed by injustice and accountable to their needs. Instead of strengthening access to care and improving families’ economic well being, the resolution prioritizes corporate greed over people’s lives and ignores the reality that a stronger, healthier future requires investment in people, not cuts to the programs they rely on. This is a gut punch for the tens of millions of people who depend on these vital programs ”
Community Catalyst works in partnership with organizations and advocates—across race, class, gender, and immigration status—who would be harmed most by these cuts. We will not stand by while politicians gut essential programs under the false pretense of “fiscal responsibility.” At a time when our health system needs greater accountability and investment, this budget proposal is a step backward.
