Medicaid is Care and Peace of Mind: Eboni’s Story
Meet Eboni
In December 2016, Eboni was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of cancer.
At the time, she was 46 years old and had an 11-year-old and a 4-year-old. She was working as a night auditor at a local hotel in Georgia, making $9.75 an hour.
The cost of being sick was simply too high to manage on her own. “I shudder to think what would have happened if I didn’t have any medical coverage,” says Eboni.
But as her world began to crumble, Medicaid was there for her.
The diagnosis itself was scary but even scarier was the thought ‘if I didn’t have Medicaid.’ That was one less thing I had to worry about.
Eboni had six rounds of chemotherapy, 23 rounds of radiation, and countless procedures, scans, and appointments. Because of Medicaid, this mother was able to focus on her health and family and was able to successfully fight the cancer without worrying about medical debt.
Happily, in October 2017, Eboni was declared cancer-free.
She has been cancer-free since, because she was able to get the care she wanted and needed. Eboni is one of millions who knows the importance of Medicaid.
