Washington, D.C. – In response to Speaker Johnson’s Continuing Resolution text that does not include any health care relief for millions of people in this country, Mona Shah, Senior Director of Policy and Strategy at Community Catalyst, released the following statement:

“The proposal from Speaker Johnson and Republicans in Congress is woefully insufficient. Democrats should reject it.

“Millions of people in this country are depending on Congress to prevent a 75% increase in their health care premiums and no government funding deal should pass without including this critical fix that would save families from paying hundreds of dollars more for health care coverage. Congress created this health care crisis. And Congress needs to fix it, and now. People should not have to choose between health care coverage or putting food on their tables.

“Our communities can not afford to wait for any more political games or stall tactics by Republicans. Democrats should stand firm and reject any deal that does not include making the premium tax cuts permanent and restoring over a trillion dollars in health care cuts that Republicans gutted earlier this year.”
