ICYMI: Scapegoating immigrant families won’t solve our health care crisis
As Republicans push through dangerous cuts to Medicaid that would terminate coverage for millions, they’re using the same strategy we’ve seen time and time again – scapegoating immigrant families to justify gutting the health care safety net.
Instead of holding corporations accountable for straining the health care system, lawmakers are targeting immigrants.
Yesterday, KFF published new data revealing nearly 300,000 undocumented children could have their health care coverage terminated if this megabill becomes law.
Our latest blog, co-authored by Brandon G. Wilson, Community Catalyst’s Senior Director of Health Innovation, Public Health, and Equity and Adriana Cadena, Director of Protecting Immigrant Families, unpacks the cruel and dangerous attacks on health care for immigrants and how cuts to Medicaid will hurt people across communities.
Slashing this lifeline won’t cut costs or hold the corporations at fault accountable – it’ll just deny care to vulnerable communities, strain hospitals, and push even more families into medical debt.
We don’t have to accept a system that prioritizes corporate profits over people’s health. We can reject scapegoating and division and demand a health care system that serves everyone—no matter where they’re from or what language they speak.
Community Catalyst and Protecting Immigrant Families are committed to protecting Medicaid and building a health care system that puts people over profits.
