It’s Time For Congressional Republicans to Abandon Repeal of the Affordable Care Act
BOSTON, MA — Statement of Robert Restuccia, executive director of Community Catalyst, in response to today’s developments related to Senate Republicans’ efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
“Senate Republicans have failed in their effort to pass the Better Care Reconciliation Act. Now their ‘back-up plan’ to resurrect repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without a replacement appears to be in jeopardy with news that Senators Capito, Collins and Murkowski will vote against a motion to proceed. We hope other senators will join them in voting against the measure, putting the health, needs and wishes of their constituents ahead of politics.
“The American people have spoken. They do not support congressional Republican efforts to strip health care from millions, gut Medicaid and roll back critical consumer protections. They want Congress to come together in a bipartisan fashion to build on the gains made through the ACA. It’s time for Republicans to abandon their efforts to repeal the ACA and work to make it better for all Americans by expanding coverage, lowering out-of-pocket costs, addressing inequities, tackling prescription drug prices and improving the quality of care.”
