(BOSTON, MA)Statement of Robert Restuccia, executive director of Community Catalyst, in response to House Republicans’ latest plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“Despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans opposed the failed House Republican ACA repeal bill, congressional Republicans are back at it, working behind closed doors during the April recess to make a bad bill even worse.

“The latest proposal would strip coverage from 24 million of people and increase costs for millions more. It would also return us to the dark days when people with preexisting conditions like cancer or diabetes were unable to get health insurance, insurers charged women more than men for coverage and insurance plans failed to cover critical services such as maternity or substance use disorder care. That’s totally unacceptable.

“Instead of sacrificing the health and health care of Americans to grease the wheels for a massive tax cut for the top one percent and appease the extreme wing of their party, House Republicans should listen to their constituents and offer real solutions to improve our nation’s health care system. We will hold them accountable for any action they take that would result in fewer people covered, increased costs or a scaling down of benefits.”
