Kavelle Christie is the Director of the Gender Equity & Health Justice Program at Community Catalyst. In this role, Kavelle works with partner organizations and stakeholders at the local, tribal, state, and federal levels to advance SRHR, LGBTQ+, and maternal health care across the country. Kavelle joined Community Catalyst in January 2020 as an associate director of the program.
Previously, Kavelle served as a public policy and engagement specialist as well as a community organizer for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. In these roles, Kavelle lobbied at the Rhode Island statehouse and co-managed a Rhode Island reproductive health and rights coalition of more than 20 community organizations. She also expanded Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s advocacy efforts to include reproductive intersectionality and managed a Black Maternal Health campaign with community partners, focused on Medicaid and private insurance coverage of doula services in Rhode Island. Earlier in her career, Kavelle was a campaign manager for a successful Rhode Island state representative campaign and a regional field director and field organizer for electoral campaigns in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. She has also worked in public relations and news media in Kingston, Jamaica.
Kavelle received her MSc in global health from the University of Manchester, UK.
